Visualize furniture in your own home using augmented reality. SnapShop gives you confidence that a sofa or chair looks great in your living room before you buy. Whether youre looking for a new couch, or just having fun coming up with ideas for a future remodel, SnapShop is the perfect tool to imagine how it might look and get feedback from friends.
How it works:
1) Walk into your living room and launch SnapShop.
2) Browse our always growing furniture catalog and choose a category like sofas. Pick your favorite sofa from a list of images which brings up your iPhone camera with an overlay of the sofa so you can point and see the sofa where youd like it to go (iPod Touch or iPad users can load a picture from their camera roll).
3) Use your fingers to position and rotate the sofa in the right spot and take a photo. It really looks like the sofa is in your living room!
4) Tap the screen to see a menu of options
5) Use the back and forward buttons to flip through different models and colors
6) Save the photo or email it to yourself and friends to get their opinion. The email links to the brands website so you can do more research later.
7) Tap the shopping cart button to visit the retailers website without leaving the SnapShop app

KEY FEATURES:

Pros and cons of SnapShop Showroom app for iPhone and iPad

SnapShop Showroom app good for

This app is so much fun - a bit addictive actually! I love imagining different looks for my space and this really makes that happen. I cant wait until they add some office furniture. I love that they have wall decals in the kids section.
I like the app and the concept. Its amazing what the iPhone can do with the right applications on it. The only problem with this application is the risk of buying a sofa you dont need, like me, without the need of buying a sofa, now I saw how I will look on my living room, I have the impulse of going to Ikea to get it. The application crashed at the first run, but I guess its because Im also testing the OS 4.0 Beta on my iPhone. After I restarted the iPhone it worked well.
Great concept and execution. A really useful app that I wish I had before buying a couch a couple of months ago.
Great application!!! This is helping us a lot to decorate our new home. We are actually sharing some ideas with our family by taking some pictures, sending them by e-mail and getting their perspective… Really cool and useful tool… I can’t believe it took so long for someone to come up with this!
So clever! My kids love seeing the weedecor airplane wall decals. I love dreaming about the floral ikea loveseat. Credit cards beware!
Out shopping for furniture... just snapshop it! Designer pitching to a client.... show them how itll look, right in their living room!

Some bad moments

After looking at 4-5 items, the catalogue wouldnt reload -- error message stated it couldnt find the item (which was already on display). *Then* the program started moving to the background every time I tried to do anything. Once the glitch is repaired, it would be nice to be able to filter by price range...please.
crappy - just superimposes the image of the furniture to the camera
The first thing I see after starting the app is that it cant download the catalogue. My internet connection is 100% fine and it still wont work. I dont usually bother taking time to write a review but I feel that if it will motivate the makers to fix the app it will be worth it because this is such a good idea.
Simply put, this is the virtual equivalent of cutting a picture out of a catalogue and holding it up against your room. Their use of the term "fit" only refers to color or style - as in a fru-fru interior decorator telling you "oh, this chartreuse poodle lamp fits your room perfectly." You can freely scale and rotate the item against your room image but you have no way of telling if the item will physically fit in the space. From the app description I was expecting it to ask you to click a few points and edges to define you rooms dimensions and dynamically scale the item photos to appear as they would in real life.
This was not at all what I was expecting. You select an item of furniture and your camera turns on with the image of the item in the view. You can enlarge and rotate the furniture piece but really doesnt give you much of a feel for how it would look in your room. I snapped the picture to capture the image but my phone locked up crashed my phone. No thanks, this one gets deleted.
I have no imagination and loved the idea of photographing my room and inserting different objects to see what works. In actuality, this program is not useful at all. When you place an object in the room you can resize it to see what looks good....the problem is you have no idea what the size is. Also, extremely limited options on what you can put in room.
